The Short Story

Dried wood pulp in bales and rolls is sold around the world to papermakers and other end users that do not have their own pulp, or enough of their own, pulp supply. The global market for such wood pulp, known as market pulp, totals around 90 million tonnes a year valued at roughly US$75 billion. Market Pulp is the most global subsector of global forest products business. Roughly 90% of its supply is exported, generally sold in US$, with about 60% having to cross an ocean to get to its final end-use destination. That is most often China which accounts for roughly 40% of world market pulp demand.

TTOBMA started covering the sector with a subscription-based pulp market information service in April 1998 centered on its Market Pulp Monthly report. Its market intelligence services have expanded significantly since then and particularly since 2016 when it published its first open-market, transactions based, TTO (Trade Tree Online) net-pulp-price indices. What has never changed is TTOBMA’s commitment to track the leading edge of pulp markets by connecting everyday around the world with market pulp sellers, buyers, agents, traders and transporters.
